Samuel W. Mitcham

Samuel Wayne Mitcham, Jr. (born January 2, 1949 in Mer Rouge , Louisiana ) is an American officer , geographer and military writer specializing in World War II and the German Wehrmacht .

Life

Mitcham's mother was a local journalist. He studied journalism at Northeast Louisiana University and North Carolina State University . His Ph.D. in geography from the University of Tennessee in 1986 . During the Vietnam War he served as a helicopter pilot and company commander in the US Army. He attended Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth , Kansas and was promoted to major general in the reserve.

He initially taught at Henderson State University and Georgia Southern University and then became an Assistant Professor of Earth Sciences at the University of Louisiana at Monroe. In addition, he was u. a. Visiting Professor at the United States Military Academy , West Point, Virginia. Mitcham is the author of numerous military historical writings that have also been translated into other languages. He was a consultant u. a. used by CBS , BBC and the History Channel .

Mitcham is married and has two children. He lives in Monroe , Louisiana .
