The Hametwald is a forest area near Sierning in Upper Austria .

Location and landscape

The Hametwald is one of the larger remains of the forest in the extra-alpine Traunviertel . It is located in the Traun-Enns-Riedelland west of Sierning , in the municipal area of ​​Sierning and Waldneukirchen , at around 400  m above sea level. A.

The forest extends over 3 kilometers north to south from Hilbern to Katzenmarkt and Oberwallern . It includes the valley of the uppermost Seilerbach (Vallabach), which then goes over Schiedlberg to Krems . Over the Riedel to the east, the forest reaches into the uppermost ditch of the Ipfbach . Over the Riedel to the west are the headwaters of some other Krems tributaries in the forest, namely Thanstettner Mühlbach , Piberbach and Badhaller Edtbach .

On the south-eastern edge at Kammerhub lies the watershed point Steyr (and Enns ) - Krems - Ipfbach ( ), the larger Danube tributaries of the eastern Traun-Enns-Platte.

history

The Hametwald belongs to the forest area between Dietach and Sierning mentioned in 777, which belonged to the Slawendekanie . The name is documented around 1270 as Heumad zu Mahd, Mähen , which refers to the early clearing in the area. Originally, the forest area has seen extensive, in the 18th century there was talk of Upper Hametwald , the Lower Hametwald is today Droißingerwald north of the Hametwald by Auslichtungen at lower Hilbern is separated and Hilbern. Nature and water management

The forest is a contiguous, relatively near-natural forest that is only cut up by the Voralpenstraße  (B122, Sierning - Bad Hall) and at the very north edge by the Großmengersdorfstraße (L1359).

It represents an important local recreation area for the city of Steyr . In the southeast near Kammerhub there is a forester's house in a clearing, which today serves as a seminar location.

In addition, there is a water protection area (Waldneukirchen-Hametwald) with 8.8 hectares on the southern edge . The establishment of a large associated water protection area (Hametwald-Droißingerwald) is planned.
