history

The place name is already mentioned in a document (dated around) 1313 as Hulbarn . It probably stands for hülwe 'puddle, swamp area' with a place suffix -arn in the sense of 'those who live on the swamp'.

Hilbern (Oberhilbern with Unterhilbern and scattered layers) belonged as a village to the Sierning parish , and in the Austrian Empire to the Sierning district commissioner.

Until the 20th century, today's village of Hilbern was considered the actual place Than [n] stetten . Thanstetten got its own parish in 1786 , but according to the conscription numbering, the village became part of Hilbern and remained with the Sierning parish. In 1805 the village of Thanstetten was then reduced to the houses in his parish. The two tax communities Hilbern and Thanstetten were formed. With the creation of the local parishes after 1848/49 , Thanstetten also became an independent political municipality.

The village had 24 houses around 1930. The name Thanstetten lost its meaning with the renaming of the community to Schiedlberg in 1947 (after the meanwhile larger church village and main town) and today only refers to the scattered houses to the northwest.

Since 2010 the Sierning part is no longer listed as a statistical location, but continues to form an independent part of the municipality.
