Gründberg is a place in the Steyrtal in the Traunviertel of Upper Austria , as well as part of the municipality and cadastral municipality of the municipality of Sierning in the Steyr-Land district , and - also as a Gründbergsiedlung - part of the statutory city of Steyr .

geography

The place is between the city of Steyr and the place Sierning . The locations extend over about 7 kilometers on the left bank north of the Steyr River , on the southern edge of the Traun-Enns-Platte . The location includes Ober- and Untergründberg in Sierning, plus the Gründbergsiedlung downstream, which already belongs to Steyr.

Gründberg in the real sense as part of the municipality of Sierning (locality in the sense of the municipality's own structure) comprises the two places Obergründberg on the plateau above Sierning, and Untergründberg directly in the valley floor on the river, east of Sierninghofen . Untergründberg is larger with over 300 houses and over 900 inhabitants, while Obergündberg has around 200 addresses.

The Gründbergsiedlung in Steyr is in the cadastral community of Föhrenschacherl . It forms there with the Rotte Damm , as well as some scattered areas and industrial area, an independent district ( Gründberg or Gründbergsiedlung ). This stretches between Steyrufer and Wolfernstrasse ( L564 ) and has a good 250 addresses with over 900 residents.

history

Obergründberg and Pachschallern are two old farms from the early 9th century. The place name appears around 1325 as dasz grindveria in the sense of a field name , and was next to Grin [d] berg until the 18th century officially Grünberg (the name related to today's village Obergründberg). The area of the high terrace above the Steyr River is still agricultural today.

The corridor of Untergründberg was only sparsely populated until the early 20th century, and was also called In der Au . In 1891 the Pergern - Bad Hall wing line of the Steyrtalbahn was built here, a narrow-gauge line that connected the Rudolfsbahn in Ennstal and the Kremstalbahn. The stop was in Sierninghofen.

The terraced area towards the city was also a pure agricultural scattered settlement for a long time. The Gründbergsiedlung was established between 1933 and 1935, with the development of the Steyr iron industry . After the connection , this area came to the city of Steyr on October 15, 1938, and there became mainly the VIIIth district of Gründberg and the cadastral community of Gründberg ( called Föhrenschacherl from the 1950s ).

After the end of the war, this part remained with Steyr, Sierning received Brunnern von Thanstetten (Schiedlberg) in return .

In the post-war period, Untergründberg and the Gründbergsiedlung became the main settlement areas of the old location.

Since the new city statute in 1992, Gründberg is no longer listed as the 8th district in the city of Steyr, but continues to operate as the statistical district of Gründbergsiedlung  (14, statistical zone of the same name no. 13). Since 2010, the Sierning part of Statistics Austria no longer runs as an independent village, but is still managed by the municipality.
