history

Originally the area belonged to the municipality of Sierning . Here there was only the Reindl im Thal farmstead (today a motel), the old place of execution of the city of Steyr was facing the city.

On the initiative of Florian Mayrpeter, the owner of the Viertlgut, the Gründbergsiedlung was built between 1933 and 1935, with 58 settlers at the time. It was one of the single-family housing estates that arose around Steyr in the 1930s.

In 1938, after the Anschluss , this area came to the city of Steyr.

The settlement now encompasses the entire area between the state hospital and Reindlbach, around Sudetenstrasse (named in honor of the German Bohemians who were expelled after the war and who also settled here). The area on the terrace above, around the allotment gardens on Franz-Draber-Straße (named after the resistance fighter Franz Draber ) is now closed.
