history

Oberbrunnern is an old courtyard from the 9th century, in which this area in the southeastern Traunviertel and Steyrtal was developed. Niederbrunnern is likely to be even older.

Oberbrunnern and Niederbrunnern belonged as localities to the Sierning parish , and in the Austrian Empire to the Sierning district commissioner. The tax community came with the creation of the local communities in 1848/49 to the municipality of Thanstetten .

After the Anschluss in 1938 , part of Gründberg was annexed to the city of Steyr , Sierning received as compensation on January 1, 1939 Brunnern von Thanstetten, which was later renamed to Schiedlberg.

Since 2010, Oberbrunnern is no longer listed as a statistical locality , but Oberbrunnern and Niederbrunnern continue to form an independent part of the municipality.
