Kurt von Wistinghausen

Kurt Roderich Thomas Klas von Wistinghausen (born May 13, 1901 in Reval ; † September 3, 1986 in Filderstadt ) was a German-Baltic nobleman , theologian , writer and publisher .

Life

Kurt Roderich first attended the Knight and Cathedral School in Reval . The family moved to Germany in 1918 and lived in Berlin and Tübingen , where he continued his education in Berlin at the Schiller-Gymnasium , in 1921 he graduated from the Uhland-Gymnasium in Tübingen.

From 1921 he studied art history and German studies at the universities in Tübingen and Breslau and later also religious studies and theology . In Breslau he was a co-founder of the “ Christian Community ” and pastor of this community, which he continued in Stuttgart in 1926 . He initially worked as a pastor and trained in publishing, in 1937 he became managing director of the Freie Geistesleben & Urachhaus publishing house in Stuttgart. In 1941 he was arrested by the Gestapo and banned from working for the following years . In the meantime he worked as a lecturer at Cotta-Verlag in Stuttgart. From 1946 he resumed his pastor in the Christian Community and became head of the re-established Urachhaus publishing house. Since 1960 he has been the editor of the monthly “Die Christengemeinschaft” on religious renewal.

Origin and family

Karl Roderich von Wistinghausen came from the German-Baltic noble family von Wistinghausen , which had been based in Reval since around 1640. His father was the doctor Reinhold Karl Alexander Christian von Wistinghausen (* 1863 in Reval, † 1939 in Berlin), he was married to Dagmar Anna Hedwig von Ramm (* 1865). His younger brother was Almar von Wistinghausen (1904–1989). Kurt Roderich married Elisabeth Steeb (* 1908, † 1985 in Stuttgart).
