Philadelphia Aquarium
The Philadelphia Aquarium was an aquarium in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania , that was open from 1911 to 1962. It was on the bank of the Schuylkill River .
In 1909, the city's former waterworks were replaced by other water reservoirs. The site of the old waterworks, on the other hand, was unused, while the associated buildings were used by the Philadelphia Museum of Art . The aquarium was built on the site to give city residents a better understanding of freshwater and marine aquatic habitats. The aquarium opened on Thanksgiving 1911 and had 19 individual aquariums. The offer also included a series of lectures. After the Second World War, the aquarium suffered from insufficient financial support from the public sector. In 1962 it had to be closed.
