Kyōto Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra

The Kyōto Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra ( Japanese 特定 非 営 利 活動 法人 京都 フ ィ ル ハ ー モ ニ ー 室内 合奏 団 , Tokutei Hieiri Katsudō Hōjin Kyōto Firuhāmonī Shitsunai Gassōdan ) is a professional Japanese chamber orchestra in Kyōto . It was founded in 1972, has been an NGO since 2000 and as such an extraordinary member of the Japanese Orchestra Association . The ensemble currently consists of 15 musicians who, in particular with concerts, endeavor to provide musical education at primary schools in the Kyoto prefecture . Since it was founded, the ensemble has given concerts at 2900 schools. In addition, the ensemble gives chamber concerts and accompanies Rakugo , Kyōgen and Bunraku performances. The ensemble is currently conducted by Ichirō Satō. In 2002 the ensemble toured Italy, in 2005 it played a public rehearsal under the direction of Nikolaus Harnoncourt , who had come to Japan on the occasion of the awarding of the Kyoto Prize .
