With Phorie ( phor , φορά , Greek ., The "being carried") is the position of the eyes called (or their optical axes) from one another.

  • In orthophoria , these are aligned in such a way that there is a stable muscle balance between the two eyes and that even if binocular vision is interrupted, the axes of vision do not deviate from one another and remain focused on a fixed object.
  • Heterophoria is the medical term for a latent, i.e. hidden squint . Depending on the examination, a distinction can be made between dissociated and associated heterophoria. There are horizontal , vertical and cyclorotatory forms. In addition, a heterophoria without complaints is also called normophoria or asymptomatic heterophoria , a heterophoria with complaints pathophoria or symptomatic heterophoria .
