Phorum is PHP -based free software for providing an Internet forum . The first versions were developed since 1998 by the American Brian Moon. Since 2000, the development has been driven by the Phorum Development Team , which last consisted of five people . A planned version 4 was never published. The German Thomas Seifert was one of the main contributors to the development of version 5, which was released from beta in 2004 .

Many unsupported functions can be implemented using a modular system. Features such as BB codes or announcements are pre-installed as modules.

System requirements

A web server with PHP version 5.2 or higher and MySQL version 5.0.15 or higher is recommended to run Phorum version 5 . The developers state that Phorum also works with PHP version 4.3 or higher and MySQL version 4.0.18 or higher, but advise against it.
