Phraates III.
Phraates III. was a Parthian king who lived from about 70 to 57 BC. Ruled. He was the son of his predecessor Sinatrukes . During his reign, the Romans attacked Armenia and Asia Minor . The kings there Mithridates VI. and Tigranes II asked the Parthians for help, but Phraates III responded. not at first. In 66 BC Chr. Was Pompey governor in Asia Minor and began to further actions against the above ruling. In doing so, he assured himself of the friendship of Phraates III, no doubt in order to keep his back free. In the following years, however, Pompey agreed a contract with Tigranes and gave him Gordyene , which actually belonged to Parthia. The Parthians were expelled from there and their protests were treated with insults. There was some fighting, but was 64 BC. A peace treaty was negotiated in which the status quo was accepted. 57 BC Was Phraates III. murdered by his sons. His sister and wife Peruztana is known from cuneiform texts.
