The Phywe GmbH & Co. KG (proper spelling: PHYWE ) is a manufacturer of teaching and learning materials in the scientific area with headquarters in Göttingen . It is one of the world's leading manufacturers of equipment for schools and universities.

Products

The company has around 6000 different individual devices on offer, the use of which is supported by both teachers (teachers and lecturers) and learners (pupils and students) with the help of around 4000 associated test descriptions and around 200 more extensive books. The company was founded in 1913 as a company for research into the interior of the earth by Dr. Gotthelf Leimbach founded. In 1918 the name was changed to Physikalische Werkstätten GmbH and the production of physics teaching aids began. The production of chemistry teaching aids began in 1919 and that of biology teaching aids in 1921.

In 1920 the company was renamed Physikalische Werkstätten AG. The Phywe trademark has existed since then .

In 1925, Phywe was the market leader in the field of the experimental representation of scientific phenomena for school and university purposes and had 300 employees.

In 1940 the company was transformed into PHYWE Aktiengesellschaft .

During the Second World War, civil production was outsourced to make way for war-essential production. At the end of 1944 the company had 718 employees in the main plant. Including production relocated to other cities, the total number of employees was 1,400.

In 1953 Phywe had 600 employees.

In 1987 the company had to file for bankruptcy. On January 1st, 1988 it was re-established as Phywe Systeme GmbH and has been part of the Lucas-Nülle group of companies from Kerpen-Sindorf ever since . In 1988 a turnover of 68 million DM was achieved with 360 employees. The sole shareholder is Rolf Lucas-Nülle. In 2003 the legal form was changed to Phywe Systeme GmbH & Co. KG .
