The PICARD Lederwaren GmbH & Co. limited partnership is a leather goods manufacturer from Obertshausen . The company sells its products under the Picard brand. In addition to the Obertshausen location, the company also has plants in Bangladesh , Ukraine and Tunisia .

history

The company was founded in 1928 by Martin Picard and his sons Edmund and Alois. It was entered in the commercial register under the name Gebr. Picard Lederwarenfabrik . In 1935 the company was the first to introduce large-scale production of leather goods. At that time the company had 100 employees. A new plant was opened in Obertshausen in 1949. At the end of the 1960s, over 1000 people were employed at this location.

In the 1970s, like all companies in the leather goods industry around Offenbach, the company suffered from imports from South America and the Far East. As a result, a large part of the production was relocated abroad with the establishment of a subsidiary in Tunisia. In 1995 another foreign plant followed in Bangladesh, in 2008 the location in Germany was strengthened and in 2011 another plant in Ukraine. In the early 1980s, Picard was able to record growing sales again and has been family-run in the fourth generation for over 90 years.

On October 21, 2013 Picard opened his twelfth own brand store on Kurfürstendamm in Berlin.

Companies

As of 2008, the company had an annual turnover of 30 million euros, 28 percent of which was generated in exports. The company has 160 employees at its location in Germany. There are around 400 employees in Tunisia and Ukraine and 1200 in Bangladesh. (As of November 2019).
