Petrus Theodorus Joseph Marie "Piek" Vossen (* 1960 in Schaesberg ) is a Dutch computer lexicographer. He is a professor at the Free University of Amsterdam .

Vossen studied linguistics and Dutch at the University of Amsterdam with a doctorate in computer lexicology in 1995. He founded and heads the Computational Lexicology & Terminology Lab (CLTL) at the Free University of Amsterdam, where he has been Professor of Computer Lexicography since 2006. In addition to his academic research, Vossen also worked in industry on computer technologies for languages; From 1999 to 2001 he was Senior Manager at Sail Labs and from 2001 to 2009 Chief Technology Officer of Irion Technologies BV

Vossen is the founder and director of the non-commercial WordNet project Global WordNet Association (GWN) for the creation of word networks. The project was founded in 2000 after Vossen gained experience in creating word networks for the EU in eight languages. In the GWN project this was expanded to over 100 languages. He works on various language-related computer projects such as the History Recorder (which filters news and thus lists events, their time, place and people involved and links them to events in the past) and the NewsReader project (acquisition and organization of large amounts of economic and financial information -Information from news sites).

In 2013 he received the Spinoza Prize . In 2015 he became a knight of the Order of the Dutch Lion . He is a member of the Koninklijke Hollandsche Maatschappij der Wetenschappen .
