Pierre Oba

Pierre Oba (born July 17, 1953 in Ollembé, Central Congo, today: Brazzaville ) is a politician of the Republic of the Congo .

Life

Oba, who belongs to the Mboschi ethnic group , was appointed Director of Presidential Security by his cousin, President Denis Sassou-Nguesso , and on September 11, 1987, Director General for Public Security. In 1989 he also became a member of the Central Committee of the Congolese Labor Party PCT ( Parti Congolais du Travail ) . After Sassou-Nguesso lost his presidency in the first free elections on August 31, 1992, Oba lost his position as Director General for Public Security and in 1993, together with Michel Ngakala, founded the Cobras , a militia loyal to the now opposition leader Sassou-Nguesso.

After President Denis Sassou-Nguesso took office again, Oba was appointed Minister of the Interior and Security on November 2, 1997 and held this ministerial office until August 18, 2002. He then served between August 18, 2002 and August 7, 2002 January 2005 as Minister for Security and Police. Since January 7, 2005, Oba has been Minister for Mining and Mineral Industries in the government of President Sassou-Nguesso. After the death of Jean-Baptiste Tati Loutard from July to September 15, 2009, he also temporarily served as Minister for Hydrocarbons.
