Pirouette (wind instrument)
Pirouette (French, "to turn in a circle") is a round or oval lip support on the mouthpiece of some reed instruments . It is used with instruments whose reed is held completely in the oral cavity and makes it easier to seal off air. For example, the higher shawms , many cone oboes and the piffero have a pirouette .
An unusual crescent-shaped lip support that is shaped like a mustache is owned by the tarompet on the Indonesian island of Java .
