Piscina dos Olivais

The Piscina dos Olivais is an urban swimming pool in the municipality of Olivais in the Portuguese capital, Lisbon .

history

The swimming pool was built as an outdoor pool complex according to plans by the architects Eduardo Paiva Lopes and Aníbal Barros da Fonseca and opened in 1960. It is located in the valley between the Olivais Sul and Encarnação districts on Avenida de Berlim .

It was the first swimming pool in Portugal to have an Olympic-sized pool. Together with swimming pools in Areeiro and Campo Grande , it is considered exemplary of the Portuguese architecture of the 1960s.

In 2000, a covered 25-meter pool was inaugurated on the premises of the swimming pool. In 2006 the entire sports complex was closed.
