Pitakat Taik

Pitakat Taik ( Burmese ပိဋကတ် တိုက် ) is a library building in Bagan , Myanmar , not far north of Thatbinnyu Temple .

history

King Anawrahta built the library in 1058, after he Thaton captured and brought from there 30 elephant loads of scriptures to Bagan. The current appearance is the result of the renovation in 1783 under King Bodawpaya .

description

The five-fold pyramid-like roof structure on the square one-story building implements elements of the wooden structures that are typical for buildings in the 18th century in stone.
