Pizza Pizza branch in Toronto

Pizza Pizza is a Canadian pizza franchise chain.

history

Pizza Pizza was founded by Michael Overs, who opened its first location on December 31, 1967 on the corner of Wellesley Street and Parliament Street in Toronto. He owned the company until his death in 2010. It expanded to the entire Toronto area in the 1970s and the rest of Ontario in the 1980s and 1990s. Pizza Pizza began expanding significantly outside of Ontario in the 2000s. In its 2005 listing filings, the chain announced that it would consider expanding into western Canada, possibly including purchasing existing local chains. This resulted in an agreement to purchase Pizza 73 in Alberta in June 2007. In October 2006, the company announced that it would expand in the Quebec market.

Locations

The restaurants are primarily located in the province of Ontario, while other locations are in Quebec, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and western Canada. Franchises in western Canada are operated primarily by subsidiary Pizza 73 in Alberta. The company has more than 660 locations.
