The grid square garden

The grid square garden is a green area on the Wieden in Vienna that is looked after by a "garden courtyard association" . In addition to the entrance at Margaretenstrasse 30, the garden can also be reached through an entrance at Preßgasse 24.

The park has numerous play equipment and a huge sandpit. You can picnic on the meadow. Dogs are not allowed. Part of the park is fenced in for the adjoining day care center run by the City of Vienna.

Based on the first discussions in the autumn of 1973, ORF employees , residents, planners and city politicians spent a long time working on the implementation of the “Planquadrat” project. Various television programs, tenants' meetings, exhibitions and the work of a "planning group" as well as the support of city officials ultimately led to success. After a corresponding adaptation of the courtyard areas in the middle of the Margaretenstrasse, Preßgasse and Mühlgasse blocks , the "Gartenhof-Verein" was able to start its care activities in the summer of 1977.
