Plastic Interface for Collaborative Technology Initiatives through Video Exploration

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pictive ( PICTIVE ) is a consistently lightweight software development method to participatory software development to integrate into a project. The most important features are the use of simple, intuitive techniques and a strong focus on the design of the user interface .

PICTIVE was developed by MJ Muller in the early 1990s as an alternative to the very structured, participatory development methods from the Scandinavian region. The participation is of PICTIVE primarily through the participation of users in the design demanded. This participation is to be enhanced by the active and decisive participation of the user in the development process.

Action

In keeping with its main guidelines, there is a simple process step that can be repeated if necessary: the PICTIVE session, which consists of the following parts:

  • the creation of an everyday scenario by the user for the system to be developed,
  • the development of design solution elements by the user,
  • the mutual introduction of all those involved, usually a developer and the user and an optional, short mutual introduction to the subject areas that are important for the software system,
  • a discussion phase, during which a final design solution is generated and
  • a test in the form of a run through the selected design solution based on the everyday scenario with the simultaneous visualization of design decisions.

Tools

It is important that all design proposals are not made on the computer, but with more intuitive everyday tools such as pen and paper . The solution should already include the complete window layout. For the last phase of the PICTIVE session, a video recording of the run can also be made in order to make the succession of the content recognizable for developers who are not involved in PICTIVE in a later implementation.
