The square kilometer is a unit of calculation in public passenger transport. It describes the product of the passenger seats offered by a transport company and the distance covered by the respective means of transport. Both seats (without a driver's seat) and standing room count as passenger space, based on a space requirement of 0.25 square meters per passenger.
