Playalong

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Playalongs are practice versions of pieces of music in which a certain instrument voice or the singing voice is muted for practice purposes. So musicians or music students can take over the missing voice or "play along" ( English to play along ).

Playalongs are offered for all areas of music, from classical music, jazz to pop music. The user has the option of practicing a solo part or a voice accompanied by a full orchestra, trying out improvising in the company of a combo or simply using help with learning an instrument. In a certain way, but to a very limited extent, play-alongs are comparable to karaoke mixes in which the vocal part is only hinted at instrumentally.

The production of a professional play-along is relatively time-consuming, as the complete piece has to be recreated track by track and then produced again. A cheaper alternative is to create MIDI files from which the corresponding voice is faded out. Playalongs for every need can be purchased on the Internet.

One of the best-known manufacturers of play-alongs, whose brand is often used as a generic name , is the American company Music Minus One, founded in 1950 .

In the case of cheap musical instruments that are not available in specialist shops, but z. B. are sold in supermarkets, a Playalong CD suitable for this instrument is usually included in the accessories.

In 2012 the German music publisher Schott Music launched a Playalong and Singalong app for iPad for the first time. The app received the AKEP Award 2012 for the best publishing performance in the field of electronic publishing .
