Rocking Rabbit in Action

Playsam ( Playsam i Kalmar AB ) is a Swedish company based in Kalmar . The company specialized in producing high quality and well designed children's toys . The company was founded in 1984 by Carl Zedig. Carl Zedig tied a number of well-known employees to himself, such as the graphic designer Hans-Christer Ericson, who gave the company a graphic identity, and the designers Ulf Hansen and Björn Dahlström.

Ulf Hanses, who worked for the industrial designer Sigvard Bernadotte and who designed toys for handicapped children, created a variety of wooden toys for Playsam, for example the Streamliner F1 car from 1984, the Jetliner airplane or the original Saab Saab 001 .

The industrial designer Björn Dahlström, who had designed products for Ericsson , Hackmann , Scania and several other industrial companies, designed the rocking rabbit Rocking Rabbit (1985) and the truck Toycar (1996) for Playsam .

A stylistic feature of Playsam's products is a simple shape which, according to Carl Zedig, “stimulates the child's senses and helps the child to add the missing parts to their imagination ”. Playsam's wooden toys reflect the common Scandinavian view that all parts of society, including children, benefit from good design. Playsam thus ties in with the slogan "vackrare vardagsvara" (prettier everyday object), which the Svenska Slöjdföreningen (Swedish Association for Crafts) had coined in 1919.

Playsam's products have won the Utmärkt Svensk Form (Excellent Swedish Form) award several times .
