Pleurectomy refers to the partial or complete surgical removal of the pleura ( pleura ). This operation is performed when the pleura is so sticky for various reasons that the lung function is significantly impaired. Localized pleural tumors, such as pleural mesothelioma , and rarely recurrent pneumothoraces are indications for a partial or complete pleurectomy.
