Sublingual plica

The plica sublingualis (Latin: sub-tongue fold) is a narrow, paired bulge on the floor of the mouth covered by mucous membrane . On each side, it extends from the sublingual caruncula (Latin: wart-like cusp under the tongue), which forms the anterior end of the sublingual plica, obliquely to the rear. Under the sublingual fold which lies submandibular duct and sublingual gland (sublingual gland), the duct together with that of the submandibular gland leads (submandibular gland) on the Caruncula sublingual.

It is not uncommon for a salivary stone to form in the sublingual plica in the duct , which can lead to a painful inflammation and may require surgical intervention.
