The Passing Pocket ( English Pocket , bag ' ) is a term used in American football and describes the area in the backfield in the passing game , in which the offensive line protection for the quarterback is. This protection gives him the time to find a pass recipient and throw the ball. The tackles and guards retreat a little and protect the quarterback from defenders attacking from the side.
