Poclain EC 1000

The hydraulic excavator Poclain EC 1000 was developed by the French construction machinery manufacturer Poclain and presented to the public for the first time in 1970 at the Expomat in Paris. It appeared at a time when the cable excavators were being replaced by hydraulic excavators and the well-known manufacturers were constantly bringing ever larger machines of this type onto the market. Poclain succeeded in 1970 with the EC in 1000 the leap to number 1 so that the largest hydraulic excavators RH 60 by Orenstein & Koppel was replaced on the 2nd place.

The technical data of this excavator were impressive at the time. In the rear of the approximately 140-tonne EC 1000 were three engines from General Motors or Deutz that had already proven themselves in the HC 300 . They made a total of 780 hp and generated a breakout force of 36 tons at the bucket . On the boom of the EC 1000, could optionally shovel with 8.7 cubic meter of capacity, or a bucket containing 3 to 5 cubic meters capacity are attached. For stability on uneven terrain provided a sufficiently large-sized chain drive .

Due to its size and its performance data, the EC 1000 could easily fill the dump trucks and crusher systems that were common at the time . The excavator was therefore used both on large earthworks and in open-cast mining . The purchase price was considerable and in 1970 was around 1 million francs. After delivery, however, the customers had to struggle with many breakdowns and teething problems. In total, Poclain only built 7 of this type.
