Poenina-Holding was founded in 2010 by Jean Claude Bregy. In the same year the company acquired the companies SADA AG, Demuth AG and FairTime AG. Further acquisitions of companies in the fields of building technology and building envelopes followed in the following years.

Through the merger with the Inretis Group in 2018, the five companies Lauber IWISA AG, Willi Haustechnik AG, Ospelt Haustechnik AG, Scherrer Haustechnik AG and Spescha Haustechnik AG as well as ELIMES AG, which is active in the secondary area of ​​expertise, joined Poenina.
