Glattpark
The Glattpark is a major construction project in Switzerland that is being built in Opfikon , right on the border with the city of Zurich . As part of the construction project, a new quarter has been created between the start of construction in 2001 and around 2020, which should offer space for 7,000 residents and about the same number of jobs.
Location and surroundings
Positive location factors that are used for marketing are the direct proximity to the city of Zurich, where similar construction projects are being carried out in Oerlikon and Seebach . To compensate for the dense construction in Glattpark, an area of around 12.8 hectares was designed in the neighborhood plan for a park with a lake. An international project competition was held to design this open space. The project by the Berlin landscape architect Gabriele G. Kiefer emerged as the winner . The ground-breaking ceremony for the Opfikerpark was in June 2005, and the Opfikerpark was officially opened in December 2006. 365 days a year, the parking guides ensure that the park is clean and safe. Coaches from the Glattal platform accompany unemployed people in park maintenance and support them in integrating into the primary labor market.
traffic
The neighborhood should be as low-traffic as possible, so most of the streets are planned as pedestrian zones.
In addition to the Glatttalbahn , which affects the district, the VBG bus line 781 has been opening up the district since December 9, 2012 . The nearby Opfikon train station provides access to the Zurich S-Bahn network . The Oerlikon and Glattbrugg train stations are also directly accessible via the Glattalbahn .
The four-lane Thurgauerstrasse running to the west leads to the Opfikon half-junction of the A51 motorway (airport motorway ).
The Zurich underground depot was once planned on the site , but the project failed in a 1973 referendum.
