Pokanoket

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Pokanoket or Pocasset are a tribe of the Wampanoag Indians. They lived in the New England states of Rhode Island and Massachusetts .

The chiefs of this tribe known to us were Massasoit (until 1660) and his sons Wamsutta (1660–1662) and Metacomet (1662–1676). All of them made their first contact with the white immigrants in the 17th century, which eventually ended in the King Philips War .
