Aurora borealis (heraldry)
In heraldry, the aurora is a herald's image and less often a common figure and limited to a few municipal coats of arms . The representation of the northern lights as a heraldic figure can be explained by the special geographical location of the places that are close to observing the natural phenomenon. A floating wavy band of short, tightly packed vertical lines is preferably shown in silver or gold. The heraldic shield background is preferably shown in blue. Several short pieces, often just under the head of the shield , are also taken as a picture.
Several coats of arms of communities in the Russian Murmansk Oblast are adorned with the figure. Regional flags and flags also show the polar or northern lights.
