A Polindes

A Polindes is a community midwifery center in Indonesia . It is the third level in municipal health care after Puskesmas and Puskesmas Pembantu .

Overview

With the Polindes, the village communities are involved in the provision of birth and health services for mother and child, including family planning. These centers are set up in villages where midwives already live and are intended to close the geographical gaps so that safe and clean obstetrics can also be offered in rural areas. In addition, the Polindes educates women about maternal and child health. The local midwives often bridge the socio-cultural gap between state health workers and the village community and increase acceptance. Economic reasons for a lack of supply should be eliminated. The aim is to provide optimal care for women and newborns in order to reduce infant mortality and the number of deaths in women during childbirth. The Polindes provides information about children's health and vaccination campaigns. There is a radio in every center for emergencies.

The Polindes are administered by the local authority. The village community then implements health programs with the help of Polindes. The implementation is highly dependent on the local midwives, while other programs are brought to the individual villages and presented by officials of the Puskesmas. Most important, however, is the involvement of the Dukun , the traditional midwives from the village communities who work here with the midwives. Polindes should therefore contribute to improving the partnership in obstetrics. Posyandu (Pos Pelayanan Terpadu), the children's health improvement program, will be integrated into Polindes.

The Polindes are technically extensions of the local puskesmas, which have the direction and supervision of the Polindes in their district . Premises, including a room for childbirth and access to clean water, are provided by the village communities, the resources are provided by the government. If the village community lacks the means, the building does not have to be a new one. Old buildings can also be adapted to the needs of a Polindes. The midwives are not limited in their work to the Polindes. If a woman wishes to have a home delivery, this can be done when the circumstances are right. The midwife should also visit the dukun at work.
