history

The Policia d'Andorra was founded in 1931 as the Servei d'Ordre and was subordinate to the respective mayors of the towns until the constitution came into force in 1993. Until 1993 there was no clear separation of legislative, executive and judicial powers in Andorra.

Only after the Constitution of March 14, 1993, Constitució del Principat d'Andorra came into force , the uniform national police of Andorra, Cos de Policia d'Andorra , was founded under the direction of the Ministre de Justícia i Interior .

The management of the police consists of a director, a deputy director and the secretariat. You lead police activities across the country. Andorra is a member of Interpol .

The approximately 295 members, including 235 police officers of the Cos de Policia d'Andorra (as of 2012), are divided into four departments and special units with the following tasks:

  • Six special units, such as personal protection, dog units and mountain rescue. The Grup d'Intervenció Policia d'Andorra (GIPA) is a small special unit that was founded in 1978 to combat terrorism.
