team

A polocrosse team consists of six players. Three players on each team play in a chukka (playing time). Six to eight chukkas are played. A chukka lasts a maximum of eight minutes. One player per team wears the number 1 for attack , one player wears the number 2 for midfield and one player wears the number 3 for defense .

horse

Each player is only allowed to start with one horse in each tournament , except in the case of injury with the permission of the judges to play with a replacement horse. The horse's height at the withers is not limited, the ideal size is around 1.50 m.

Playing field and equipment

The playing field is 146.5 by 55 m. The playing field is divided into three areas (attack, midfield, defense), which can only be entered by the corresponding players. The target posts are on the front side and are each 2.5 m apart. The 27.5 m wide goal area is delimited by the penalty line. The attacker of their own team and the defender of the opposing team may be in the opposing goal area. A semicircular circle with a radius of ten meters around the goal describes a zone from which points may not be scored. Goals may only be scored by attackers.

Number 2 is only allowed to play in the 91.5 m wide central area. The number 3 is the only player who is allowed to defend the goal.

Each rider has a racket in hand with a net at the end in which the ball can be carried. The club can be of any length, typically from 1.0 m to 1.2 m. The ball is made of thick-skinned rubber with a diameter of 100 to 103 mm and a weight of 140 to 155 g.

Course of the game

The players and horses of a team line up one behind the other in the middle of the field. The respective players with the same number stand next to each other. The ball is thrown in by the referee from the front in the direction of the players.

After each goal scored, the game will restart with the same line-up.

The players are allowed to transport the ball in the net of the racket or to throw the ball to themselves or to hit the ball with their racket from the net of the opponent. Changing the club to the other side of the horse in order to protect the ball from opposing players is not permitted. Attacks on opposing players are also only allowed while riding alongside the horse. Crossing the direction of ritual is prohibited. The aim of an attack is to throw the ball between the goal posts.

After a failed attempt to score, the defender picks up the ball and throws it back into the field from the penalty line.
