Pols (dance)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pols is a Norwegian folk dance in 3/4 time , which is particularly widespread in the Røros area and is also known as Rørospols . It is believed that the origin of Rørospol is related to the immigration into the area of Røros as a result of the development of mining in the 17th century.

Rørospols is danced as a couple dance and is divided into several sections that are danced on top of each other in a fixed order. It follows one another: basic step in an open position, left turn ( vrangsnu ), "corkscrew" (woman turns under the man's hand), basic step in closed position, right turn ( rettsnu ). Then the sequence starts again from the beginning. In the basic step, the left foot steps on the first beat and the right foot takes a dragging step on the third beat of the measure.
