Polypous
Polypous was mistakenly used by John D. Beazley for the name of a Greek potter in the 2nd half of the 6th century BC. Held in Athens .
John D. Beazley added on the fragment of a rim bowl from Naukratis in Oxford, Ashmolean Museum Inv. G 1000 the inscription ΛΥΠΟΣ zu [ΠΟ] ΛΥΠΟΣ. He saw either a signature or a favorite inscription in it . According to Peter Heesen, however, the affixing to the edge of the bowl speaks against both a signature and a favorite inscription, as these can usually be found in the handle zone. The inscription rather refers to the quadruped depicted right next to it.
