Sassanat granite bridge

Pont de Sassanat is a bridge in the municipality of Escaldes-Engordany in the Principality of Andorra .

The water extraction work carried out in the Madriu Valley in the first half of the 1940s by the FHASA (Forces Hidroelèctriques d'Andorra) required the improvement of the access roads to the Madriu Valley, the most important of which is the Camí de la Muntanya mountain road, the crossed the Madriu river with this stone bridge in the Sassanat district.

It is a flat arched bridge with a lowered arched eye and stone handrail. It was built entirely with granite blocks and is a vivid example of the adaptation of high mountain architecture to the new styles, which is also a testimony to the intervention of man in his natural surroundings of the Madriu Valley.

The construction, which is dated between 1942 and 1944, is considered to be particularly worthy of protection and has been included in the Bienes de Interés Cultural (BIC) list.
