Poppo from Krakow

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Poppo was Bishop of Krakow in 1000.

He was mentioned by Thietmar von Merseburg at the Gnesen Act , when the diocese of Krakow became one of the three suffragan dioceses of the new Archdiocese of Gniezno . He was also named third in a list of Kraków's bishops . No further information has been passed on to his person.

The origin of Poppo is unknown. The name points to possible influences from southern Germany. An identity with a pupil of the same name in Magdeburg Cathedral was also considered possible.
