Portuguese-Brazilian Institute

The Portuguese-Brazilian Institute (PBI) is an academic institution of the University of Cologne; it is affiliated with the Romance seminar there (Philosophical Faculty). The PBI was founded in 1932 by the Romanist Leo Spitzer (1887–1960) and has been headed by Peter W. Schulze since March 2018. Claudius Armbruster was head of the institute from 1998 to February 2018 .

Teaching

The university teaching operated at the PBI is provided by a university professor, a guest lecturer, two academic staff, two lecturers and two lecturers (as of 2011) and includes events on Lusitanist language practice, translation, literary studies (including media and cultural studies) as part of the the following courses:

  • BA and MA in Portuguese Language Philology;
  • BA and MA in Regional Studies Latin America;
  • MA Comparative Studies;
  • Doctorate in Lusitan Studies, Brazilian Studies and Latin American Studies.
