Hans Peter Riegel

Hans Peter Riegel (born November 22, 1959 in Düsseldorf ) is a Swiss author , conceptual artist , filmmaker , photographer and art director . As an author he also signs with HP Riegel.

Life

Riegel grew up in Düsseldorf, where he studied visual communication , photography and philosophy . During his studies, he was Jörg Immendorff's assistant and private secretary from 1979 to 1982 and his partner in projects from 1983 to 1986. After completing his studies and a longer stay in New York, he ended his work at Immendorff, but remained connected to him as his advisor and photographic biographer.

In 1984 Hans Peter Riegel started working in the advertising industry as a creative at the Swiss advertising agency GGK in Düsseldorf. Later he also worked for GGK Basel. First he worked as an art director, then as a copywriter . He became creative director , managing director and partner in other advertising agency groups including BBDO and Publicis .

In the mid-1990s, Hans Peter Riegel left the advertising industry to become a management consultant . He developed projects in the field of new media , advised computer, internet, fashion and entertainment companies as well as cultural projects.

Hans Peter Riegel lives in Zurich .

Act

Hans Peter Riegel won the German Printing Prize in 1984, now Berliner Type, and was a member of the jury of the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival in 1993 .

In 2010 Hans Peter Riegel published a biography on Jörg Immendorff , Immendorff - Die Biographie and in 2013 a biography on Joseph Beuys , Beuys - Die Biographie , which sparked controversy.

In addition to his work as an author, Riegel also deals with conceptual art , video art and photography, he also develops materials for film and TV projects.

From 2002 to 2008, Hans Peter Riegel carried out an art project called SIS.TM that dealt critically with the socialization of individuals on the Internet.

Since 2014 Riegel has been exhibiting conceptual art and photography again.

In 2016 he produced the documentary MEL. THE OTHER LIFE , which had its cinema premiere in February 2017, for which he wrote the script, directed and also wrote songs. The feature film DRIFTED followed in summer 2017 , for which Riegel was again responsible for the script, direction and music. DRIFTED is the first feature film produced in Switzerland that was filmed exclusively with a smartphone .
