SIS.TM

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

SIS.TM (also SISTM) was an art project by the Swiss artist Hans Peter Riegel that existed from 2002 to 2008 and dealt critically with the socialization of individuals on the Internet . Following the practice of anonymity of authors , which is common on the Internet , the artist hid himself behind the pseudonyms SIS.TM or Taggman . This was an anticipation of the phenomena of covert authorship known today, such as Anonymous .

history

In January 2004, the Zurich underground gallery Platform exhibited 11 works that were announced under the pseudonym SISTM . They were screenshots from the Internet , portraits of women who prostituted themselves on the web .

The exhibition Incredible Subjects took place in the same place in May 2005 under the pseudonym changed to SIS.TM. SIS.TM can be understood as a play on words from SISTM or SIS for system and TM for trademark . Incredible Subjects consisted of webcam screenshots combined with blog texts that were completely pasted over the walls of the gallery. The theme of this exhibition was the self-portrayal of young people on the platforms of the Internet and their social isolation that can be seen here . Through media reports on the exhibition, not least in the main edition of the Tagesschau , the topic aroused interest in Switzerland, even among a broad audience previously far removed from the Internet, and led to controversy in the blogger scene.

In the following years, SIS.TM regularly drew attention to itself with critical articles that addressed the new forms of socialization as they resulted from the increased use of the Internet. The main themes were the representation of sexual obsession , self-harm and violent fantasy .

SIS.TM produced a series of videos called Flickering Subjects that were made with compiled Internet takeouts. Among other things, an eight-hour video that consisted of cut takeouts of self- portraits by young protagonists distributed on YouTube and a film with instructions on how to exercise physical violence, such as is common in the hooligan scene, can be found on YouTube .

In 2006, SIS.TM published the book Flickering Subjects , a compilation of texts based on authentic blogs.

In 2007, SIS.TM carried out an extensive campaign entitled Learn More , with which the prostitution of minors on the Internet was denounced, which is also consumed by Internet or mobile phone users who are also underage. Part of the campaign were four meter high "advertising posters" in Zurich's public space.

In 2008 SIS.TM declared the end of the project.
