The postencephalitic syndrome is a reversible behavior change after a viral or bacterial infection of the brain (encephalitis).
The reversibility of the changes (reversibility) distinguishes this syndrome from organic personality disorders .
The - largely (see literature) - historical name arose in connection with an epidemic of sleeping sickness , in the course of which symptoms appeared that were summarized under this term.
Possibly the name corresponds to postencephalitic Parkinsonism ( Parkinson's disease ).
