Postal Museum (Athens)

The Postal Museum in Athens is a small museum dedicated to Greek postal history.

history

The Greek Post Office (ELTA) founded a postal museum in Athens in 1978 . The project had been planned since 1966, but it was only the foundation of the Stratos private collection that triggered the project.

exhibition

The exhibition is divided into two areas: postal history and philately.

Postal history

Mailboxes, uniforms and other objects from postal history are on display.

philately

The highlights of the philately are the early Hermes heads (first Greek postage stamps) and the special editions for the 1896 Olympics. Various rare postmarks are also on display.

society

An association affiliated with the museum regularly holds specialist events and maintains the specialist library and archive.
