Giottino
Giottino (* between 1320 and 1330, according to Vasari in 1324 in Florence ; † after 1369 there) was an Italian painter from Florence. His real name was Tommaso (short: Maso) di Stefano .
Life
Giottino's father was a famous painter himself who guided his son to study the works of the great Giotto in order to learn from them. Because he based his style on that of Giotto's works, Maso came to be known as Giottino (i.e. little Giotto ) or Giotto di Stefano or Giotto di Maestro Stefano .
The frescoes of St. New Year's Eve in the church of Santa Croce (Florence) are ascribed to him, they show the legend of Pope Silvester I. Also frescoes in the church of San Remigio in Florence and a cycle of frescoes in the lower church of the Basilica of San Francesco in Assisi are possibly from him.
A large number of other works are attributed to him, including z. B. a marble statue that stands on the campanile of the cathedral in Florence.
