Powest
The term Powest ( Russian По́весть / Povest ') designates in Russian literature a prose story of a smaller scope (between novel and story ) with a chronic character, in which the flow of natural life is reproduced. The dramatic conflict centers around the main hero; the personality and its fate are revealed within a few events.
In this sense, as a fixed generic term, powest has only been used since the early 19th century, especially through the works of Alexander Pushkin and Nikolai Gogol . In the old Russian literature , on the other hand, every narrative text that portrays (mostly historical) events rather objectively could be designated as such.
