Preprophase tape

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The preprophase band is a structure that forms briefly on the future cell division level during mitosis , but is broken down again before the spindle apparatus is built up.

It is only formed in plants in the preprophase of mitosis. It is one of the first signs of the onset of mitosis visible under a light microscope. The preprophase band is a belt of cortical microtubules and actin filaments running parallel to them , which surrounds the cell directly below the plasma membrane in the cell cortex and describes the position of the future new cell wall after mitosis and cytokinesis is complete. With the formation of the spindle apparatus, the preprophase ligament is regressed. The later cell wall is created precisely at this point.
