The Praça Cidade do Luso is a square in the municipality of Olivais in the Portuguese capital, Lisbon .

history

The trapezoidal square was created in the late 1960s between the plots 195-199 and 205-208 in section C of the new development area Olivais Sul . It was conceived as the central square of the residential district with local shops and cafes and remained the commercial center of the district until the Spacio Shopping mall was built .

Like 13 other streets and squares in the neighborhood, the square was given the name of a city in the then Portuguese colony of Angola by decree of the Câmara Municipal of Lisbon on April 10, 1969 and was named after the provincial capital Luso (now Luena ).

The iron sculpture Homenagem a Fernando Pessoa by the Portuguese sculptor José João Brito was unveiled in the center of the square on June 4, 1988 on the occasion of the 100th birthday of the poet Fernando Pessoa .
