The Praça da Cidade de Salvador is a square located directly on the Atlantic Ocean on the border between the two Portuguese cities of Porto and Matosinhos . In terms of urban planning, it forms the beginning of the Estrada da Circunvalação , Porto's northern bypass. Since August 16, 1948, the square has been named after the Brazilian city of Salvador da Bahia .
In 2005, the 50 meter high sculpture She Changes by the American action artist Janet Echelmann was erected in the center of the square .
Rua Roberto Ivens leads from the square to the northeast and Rua de Brito Capelo (both Matosinhos) to the north, the Estrada da Circunvalação to the east, and the Esplanada do Rio de Janeiro (Porto) to the southeast .
